Best Way to Relieve Arthritic Knee Pain – Cleveland Clinic

Arthritis is a common joint disorder. Arthritis El Centro causes inflammation in the joints, leading to pain, stiffness, and difficulty moving. While there is no cure for arthritis, there are several ways to manage the pain and improve your quality of life. Here are ways to lessen arthritis pain.

Exercise regularly

Even though you may not feel like exercising if you have arthritis, and it may seem like being active might stress your joints, mild exercises can assist in easing pain in the muscles and joints. Performing low-impact activities like bicycling, swimming, and jogging can ease joint pain. Additionally, water exercises can effectively help relieve your pain since the buoyancy of the water reduces the stress on your joints.

Another exercise to ease arthritis pain is yoga. However, you may need to adjust the standard poses to accommodate your physical restrictions. Yoga may also help with any balance or coordination problems resulting from the illness.

Manage your weight

Excess weight puts extra pressure on the joints, worsening arthritis pain. Losing weight can help to reduce the strain on your joints and improve your overall health. Eating a healthy diet low in calories and nutrients and engaging in regular physical activity can help you lose weight.

Eat a balanced diet

While there is not a specific diet for people with arthritis, some foods help lower inflammation. For instance, you should eat a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables. Green veggies like kale, cherries, and citrus fruits all contain anti-inflammatory compounds that might lessen your pain.

Also, ensure that your main sources of omega-3 fatty acids are fish and nuts. Avoid red meat,  dairy, sugar, and alcohol, or consume them in moderation, as they can increase your pain.

Use medications

There are several medications available to help manage arthritis pain. Over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen and acetaminophen, can be effective for mild to moderate pain. If your pain is more severe, your doctor may prescribe stronger medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) or disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs). Be sure to follow the instructions for taking these medications and talk to your doctor about any potential side effects.

Apply hot and cold therapy

Heat and cold therapy can help to reduce pain and inflammation in the affected joints. Using a heating pad or a warm bath can help relax the muscles and increase blood flow. Cold therapy, such as a cold pack or an ice massage, can help numb the area and reduce inflammation.

Try occupational therapy

Occupational therapy can help you to learn new ways to perform everyday tasks that are less likely to aggravate your joints. An occupational therapist can teach you how to use assistive devices, such as canes or walkers, and show you how to modify your home or workplace to make it easier to move around.

Arthritis can be debilitating, but with the right management, you can reduce your pain and improve your quality of life. Remember to talk with your doctor about the best treatment options and be consistent with your treatment plan. It is important to note that some of the above mention options may not be suitable for everyone. Therefore, seek proper medical advice before trying them out.
