CANTON — Stephen Tornero and Ron Varn were being named 2022 educators of the calendar year by the Canton Symphony Orchestra.
Tornero, of Basic Regional Colleges, is Art Educator of the Calendar year. Varn, of North Canton Metropolis Colleges, is Music Educator of the Yr.
Tornero is a visible artwork trainer at Oakwood Center School. Varn is band director at Hoover Higher College.
Awards have been announced previously this month at the symphony orchestra’s MasterWorks live performance, “Celebration of the CSO.”
10 audio and art educators were honored as award finalists.
Awards are sponsored by the Canton Museum of Art, Massillon Museum and Canton Symphony Orchestra. The 2021 winners, Ashley Kessler (artwork) and Susan Cook (new music), also were honored in individual at the live performance.
Art Educator of the Year finalists have been Matthew J. Ferrell of Massillon City Schools Candice Greene of North Canton Town Faculties Brian Poetter of Jackson Community Schools and Susan Rusu of Perry Community Faculties.
Tunes Educator of the Year Award finalists had been Beth Polen of Perry Nearby Faculties Sonya Ash of North Canton City Educational institutions Mary Meese of Plain Community Educational institutions and Jessica Bell of Simple Nearby Colleges.
Awards recognize public, non-public and parochial music and arts educators in the area served by the Stark County Academic Support Heart who have positively impacted their students and communities.
The 2022 Art Educator of the Year Finalists’ Exhibition will be on perspective in the Massillon Museum’s Decrease Stage Foyer from by April 1.
