After arriving in Kuala Lumpur, we read about the magic formula bars that dotted the metropolis and designed a system to check out and uncover as quite a few as probable – purely for investigation functions of class (cough!).
We identified ourselves ringing doorbells in bizarre alleyways, slipping through backpacker hostels with sleepy, perplexed, just-off-the-aircraft friends, stood in their place doorway, wondering why smartly dressed people were wandering the corridors outdoors their room at 1 am. We climbed dim, spiral staircases – concealed at the again of active restaurants and this one particular was the finest of all…

From the outdoors, it seemed like a normal previous street store, with the only clue being the title of the bar (PS150) sprayed in black graffiti paint on the facet of the wall. We walked again and forth together the avenue, wondering Google had presented us duff data before we hesitantly attempted the door for the first time. It went on a great deal further than the place Anna was sitting down and the cocktails had been amazing!
We finished up stumbling home (the pavements have been in a incredibly poor condition of restore 😉 ) to our resort in the wee hours of the morning, extensively experience that we experienced had a really adventurous evening!

Avenue Artwork – Penang and KL
A small additional up the coast is the high-quality old UNESCO heritage town of Penang. In the heart of old George City, the place is abuzz with some amazing street art. It all began in 2012 when Lithuanian-born area resident Ernest Zacharevic was commissioned to brighten up the city’s fading facades with artwork depicting the lives of locals. Given that then, extra artists have added their very own mark to build some lively street art that undoubtedly enlivens the city’s old Stucco partitions.
To see all the artwork is a bit of a schlep, specially in the roaring warmth of July, but we managed to drag ourselves all around to see a sizeable portion of the art (whilst perspiring profusely). From time to time, you would walk a couple of clicks, only to be greeted with a mural so pale that it was really hard to discern what it at first was. But, most of the time it was perfectly truly worth it, and some ended up incredibly shut to a bar, so we experienced a great justification to ‘cool off’ beneath the fans on the shaded verandas just after making use of up some critical shoe leather-based.
Which includes Thailand, Bali, Singapore and Vietnam, Malaysia was not our favorite destination, but the key bars and the road artwork manufactured our time there fairly fulfilling.
If you are preparing your own adventure to Malaysia, we would undoubtedly recommend KL, Penang and Melaka. Just be absolutely sure to look at out the road artwork in all three cities and see how a lot of secret bars you can uncover in KL!
